Stillwater-area OnCue managers spent their Wednesday work day at Frontier Lanes bowling alley cheering on the Special Olympics bowlers and awarding medals to the winning athletes.

Oklahoma City police officer and State Director of Special Olympics Summer Games bowling Justin Van Brunt has been involved with the Special Olympics for several years. This is his second year as the Summer Games director, and the “smiles on the athletes faces” is what motivates him.

The 56th annual Summer Games officially kicked off Wednesday, with opening ceremonies taking place at Gallagher Iba Arena. First Presbyterian Church hosted Team Stillwater for a pep rally before the ceremonies.

The competing athletes, their family members, the Stillwater Group Homes and MPower staff enjoyed a pizza party before the dance-offs began and everyone got hyped for the festivities.

This year’s Special Olympics Summer Games theme is Mardi Gras, meaning everyone is going to be having a great time.
