The second class of Convenience Store News’ Future Leaders in Convenience awards program has a diverse selection of up-and-comers, including OnCue’s Drew Dickerson, Category Manager, Dispensed Beverages & Roller Grill.
The goal of this annual awards program is to celebrate and help develop the next generation of convenience industry leaders by recognizing the achievements of a select few emerging leaders, while providing a forum for talented young business people to hone their leadership skills. The honorees are young convenience retail leaders (aged 35 and under) who are already showing they possess the traits of great leaders and are poised to be at the forefront of the industry’s future. For 2019, 15 young convenience retail professionals were chosen based on nominations from their peers that highlighted their accomplishments and achievements.
Dickerson began his convenience store career at OnCue in 2005, while completing his Bachelor of Business Administration at Oklahoma State University. He was quickly recognized for his impressive work-ethic and was promoted to General Manager of a high-volume store. Dickerson spent nearly a decade away from OnCue, desiring to grow both professionally and personally within other industries. In 2015, he re-joined the OnCue team, bringing his leadership and experience to the Merchandising team during a year of significant growth for OnCue. Over the 5 years since Dickerson’s return, OnCue has experienced remarkable growth in his categories.
“I love being in the field, in stores and interacting with customers more than sitting behind my desk. It has given me insights and perspectives I would lose otherwise. I think that is what has brought me this far in my position,” said Dickerson.
His dedication and attention to detail have launched OnCue’s dispensed beverage and roller grill offers into a new era. With an aptitude for collaboration and leadership, Dickerson truly embodies the qualities to become a future leader in convenience.
The young leaders will be recognized and honored at the second-annual CSNews Future Leaders in Convenience (FLIC) Summit, being held Wednesday, Nov. 6 in downtown Chicago.
