The next time you see a Stillwater police officer talking to a young kid, it could bring a smile to your face.
SPD and OnCue have teamed up to launch a Positive Ticket program as part of the Community Outreach Program, or C.O.P. SPD launched the program in June as a way to interact positively with Stillwater residents.
This program will award with children around the community being given “Positive Tickets” from SPD officers when observed doing good, and the tickets will be redeemable for treats at OnCue gas stations.
“We are very excited to kick off the Positive Ticket Program,” said C.O.P. Coordinator Sgt. Paul Priegel. “As the weather gets warmer and we move into the summer break periods, we are always looking for ways to promote safe, good behaviors among our youth. Unlike traditional ‘enforcement’ actions, this program allows our officers an opportunity to seek out and praise good behavior.
“We hope this will encourage these behaviors to continue while providing a positive interaction between the officers and our community’s youth.”
Actions might include children wearing helmets when riding bicycles, helping others in need, performing community service acts and anything that is safe or positive within the Stillwater community.
Laura Aufleger, the director of corporate projects at OnCue, expressed the company’s excitement for the program’s launch.
“We are pleased to support this progressive program and know that ‘Positive Tickets’ can have far-reaching effects on our community’s future,” Aufleger said. “Rewarding a child with a special treat, like a Cherry FreezeeCue, is our way of helping build positive relationships and celebrate good behavior.”
